KEARNEY, NE – Last Friday, a dedication was held at the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument in Kearney for the final installation of a 7-piece bronze sculpture called “We Stayed”.
The sculpture was commissioned by Nebraska philanthropist Rhonda Seacrest, who was inspired by her research on the history of the people who chose to stay in Nebraska and make it their home.
The entire sculpture honors those first non-native Nebraskans who had the courage and resilience to start a life in the state, and depicts a family and a team of plow horses working the land.
Dr. David Biehl, a Nebraska artist and Lexington native created the sculpture from Seacrest’s vision and research.
The final piece was the addition of the plow horses, Molly and Jack, and the entire piece can now be viewed anytime by visitors at the Archway Monument in Kearney.
