A 60-year-old Overton man faces multiple firearm charges following an incident in Overton over the weekend.  Shortly before 6:30 pm Saturday evening, the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office was called to an Overton residence on a report of a person outside shooting a gun.

A deputy made contact with a man who advised that he shot a few rounds and put the rifle away.   According to an affidavit, the man, identified as Douglas Weiser, said he was standing by his front door while shooting at a tree across the street.  The deputy observed a home directly behind the tree.

Two .22 caliber rifles were located inside the residence by the front door.  Several bullet casings were also observed by the front door.  Weiser was then placed under arrest and booked into the Dawson County Jail.  A small container with marijuana inside and a marijuana pipe were located in the suspect’s pocket during a search.

Weiser was convicted of  Felony DUI in 2014 in Buffalo County District Court.

Wesier was charged in Dawson County Court with 4 counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, one count of Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Prohibited Person involving Brass Knuckles and Possession of an Ounce or Less of Marijuana.

Weiser’s bond was set at 10% of $50,000.  His next hearing is on May 4, 2023 at 11:00 am in Dawson County Court.
