Lincoln County, Neb. — A collision between a semi-trailer and a car on Highway 83 north of North Platte resulted in the death of one person.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies and North Platte Rescue were dispatched Tuesday shortly before 12 p.m. to mile marker 104, or about 20 miles north of North Platte.

North Platte first responders contacted the driver of a Toyota that was on its top, in the ditch, with heavy damage. They determined the driver was deceased.

First responders interviewed two witnesses who were following the northbound Toyota and the witnesses noticed the Toyota was swerving in its lane and onto the shoulder for a few miles. They reported the Toyota crossed the center line and collided with a southbound Kenworth semi-trailer, with neither driver having time to apply their brakes before the crash.

The driver of the Toyota four-door was identified as 80-year-old Lloyd Gill of Stapleton, Nebraska and the driver of the Kenworth truck was 67-year-old Robert Sailor of Curtis, Nebraska. Sailor was transported to the hospital for examination and released.

Sheriff’s Deputies reported Gill was wearing his seat belt, but it was not known whether Sailor was wearing his. Deputies said there is no suspicion that either driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
