A City of McCook semi hauling trash was involved in a fatal crash shortly before 8:00am Thursday. The City of McCook says the Nebraska State Patrol is investigating with assistance from Hitchcock County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver passed away. The City of McCook identified him as 42-year-old Wayne A. Cook, an employee of the City’s solid waste transfer station. He had been employed with the City for more than 7 years.
In a statement, the City says the semi was hauling trash from McCook to the J Bar J Landfill south of Ogallala. They are preparing to recover the semi and implement clean-up procedures.
