Lexington Regional Health Center’s Interim CEO gave a report on strategic planning efforts of LRHC to the Board of Directors Tuesday. Among the goals shared by Wade Eschenbrenner was how to grow Outpatient services? One area he described, involved visiting specialists who current come to the Health Center. He asked “are they doing their full compliment of procedures that they can(at LRHC)”? The plan is to see what barriers specialists may have in not being able to do other procedures and what could LRHC do differently that would make it possible for specialists to conduct more procedures at LRHC. Eschenbrenner also noted the growth in their Wound Care Clinic. Other areas of the strategic plan he discussed include Rural Health Clinics, InPatient services, facilities, technology and internal controls. Among the action items under those goals is a proposed remodel of the Radiology Department and renovations in the Obstetrics area. Other areas were a RN shortage, rural federal grants and growing the numbers of inpatients.

Board President Rob Anderson said their recruitment consultant has identified 10 potential candidates for the Chief Executive Officer role. He explained the search committee would be doing a “book review” of the candidates with plans for first round of interviews in the coming weeks, some of those conducted remotely. When candidates are whittled down, the next step would be on-site interviews.

Human Resource Officer Jill Denker discussed the Lexington Volleyball Club program. It’s operated by the school system. She said LRHC bought new jerseys for the members. There are some changes to the CFI Football Club program for 3rd through 6th graders. She commended Rael Woehrle and Carlie Fellers for helping revitalize the program along with parents and volunteers. There are currently 47 participating at this time. It falls under a coalition of LRHC, City of Lexington and Lexington Community Foundation known as the Community Fitness Initiative. Denker said that it’s a community-based program dedicated to providing children with free activities to promote a healthy and active lifestyle.

Under the Service Excellence report of the meeting Denker spoke of the recent announcement of Chief Experience Officer Mike Dowling selected by LRHC to receive the Caring Kind Award at the upcoming Nebraska Hospital Association conference in LaVista. The Award exemplifies caring, compassion, team work and service excellence in their job responsibilities. Denker noted Dowling’s nomination mentioned that he “will drop everything, no matter how busy he is to help someone else”. Board President Rob Anderson noted there were a lot of Health Center staff members nominated for the recognition.
