Holdrege, Neb. – The Dusters hosted the Minutemaids for some Tuesday night volleyball. It had been about a week and a half since Holdrege had played a game, but the Dusters looked were able to work past a shaky start in the first set to sweep Lexington. Holdrege won 25-18, 25-16, 25-13 despite an active offensive gameplan from the Minutemaids.

Lexington freshman Josslyn Mins showed off her athleticism and dangerous swing multiple times during the night. Holdrege adjusted and took control of the first set, thanks to five kills each from senior Pyper Wells and junior Carson Sundquist. Sundquist’s night would continue with another seven kills in the second set and four in the third. She finished with a game-high 16 kills.

The Minutemaids were led offensively by senior Hannah Scharff with six kills. Mins had total kills and was joined by fellow freshman Sydney Reutlinger-Maravilla with four kills. The young Lexington squad had many chances to take control after building leads in each of the first two sets. The Duster blocking crew of Wells, Averi Bilka, and Jenna Samuelson was stout and provided enough net protection to make life a little tougher for the Lexington hitters.

With the win, Holdrege improved to 13-2 and will face 16-9 Adams Central on Thursday at the Duster Dome. First serve is scheduled for 7 pm and KUVR’s broadcast will begin at 6:50.

Lexington fell to 4-16 and will have to wait until Monday, October 14, to play again. They travel to Gothenburg to face the Swedes at 7 pm. That game can be heard on KAMI starting at 6:50.
