AINSWORTH – The two candidates for the District 43 seat in the Nebraska Legislature met with voters Tuesday at a forum in Ainsworth hosted by the Nebraska Farm Bureau.

Tanya Storer of Whitman and Tony Tangwall of Whitney are vying to replace Sen. Tom Brewer of Gordon, who is term limited after the current session.

The forum touched on an array of topics, including education, economic development, foreign ownership of land and protecting the environment.

A significant difference in the candidates’ views came on taxes. Tangwall expressed support for what has been dubbed the EPIC Option, which seeks to eliminate most state taxes in favor of a consumption tax on most goods and services.

Storer said she was concerned about a lack of local control under the EPIC plan and instead focused on the need to better balance the “three legged stool” of property, income and sales taxes.
