October 10th, 2024 | media release

Some early voters in Dawson County will be receiving new early voting ballots for the November 5, 2024, statewide general election following an error with the first batch of ballots.

This impacts the voters who were sent a ballot wherein the race for Dawson Public Power District – Dawson Subdivision appeared on their ballot with an incorrect notation of “Vote for ONE.” The new ballots are corrected to say “Vote for up to TWO.”

For voters who have already returned a ballot with this error and are returning a corrected ballot, the original ballot returned will be rejected and only the corrected ballot will be counted. For voters who have already returned a ballot with this error and do not return a corrected ballot, the original ballot will still be counted. In no instance will two ballots be counted for a single voter as a result of this error.

The Dawson County Clerk’s Office started working immediately to resolve the issue once it was discovered and notified the Secretary of State’s Office and the candidates. The clerk’s office will be sending out new ballots to early voters as soon as they are available. County Clerk Michaela Arndt apologizes for this accidental error and for the inconvenience it has caused.

All early voting ballots are due back in the clerk’s office by November 5, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. Late ballots will not be accepted. Nebraska voters can check the status of their ballots online at ne.gov/go/votercheck.

The Dawson County Clerk’s Office is here to help voters with any concerns or questions. Please contact the office by phone at 308-324-2127 Opt. 3 or email . The clerk’s office is located at 700 N. Washington St Rm A, Lexington, NE 68850.
