The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office has received $6,039.36 in state highway safety grant funding to purchase eCitations and eCrash equipment. Bill Kovarik, Administrator of the NDOT Highway Safety Office, says the equipment will be used to better track citation and crash information. Kovarik adds that “this funding and the ongoing persistence of law enforcement personnel continues to impact injury and fatality crashes”.

The funding originates from Federal Racial Profiling funds which the state Highway Safety Office has used to aid local area law enforcement in obtaining equipment that will improve the tracking of citation and crash data.

A different grant from the state Highway Safety Office has allowed for the purchase of 3 Mobile Data Terminals and docking stations to be used in patrol units.

The Sheriff’s Office has also received a new handheld FLIR device that was donated by the United States Deputy Sheriff’s Association. The device will assist deputies in officer safety situations and being able to detect heat signatures when needed. The Sheriff’s Office added, in a Facebook post, that they greatly appreciate any extra tools they can add to their toolbox.

Dawson County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tim Kostrunek holds FLIR equipment acquired through NDOT Highway Saftey Office grant funding.

The United States Deputy Sheriff’s Association does accept donations to help support rural law enforcement agencies. To support their cause, donations can be made at their website.
