BROKEN BOW – The Broken Bow Fire Department was called to the tree dump Monday afternoon after a fire broke out among some branches and yard waste.

About a half dozen trucks were on site as city crews helped clear the area around the burning refuse to prevent it from spreading amid dry conditions with winds gusting as high as 40 miles per hour.

Shortly after 3 p.m. the flames appeared to be mostly contained though a significant amount of smoke continued to pour out of the dump.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
