Cozad drops District Final to end incredible season

CENTRAL CITY – The Cozad boys basketball team dropped the C1-7 District Final on Monday night to #7 Douglas County West 46-31 to end their season.

The game got off to a back and forth start. DC West got off to a fast start thanks to five first quarter points from Ryker Wohlers, to jump ahead 11-7 after the first. In the second quarter, Cozad played incredible defense, holding the Falcons to two total points in the quarter. Thanks to that, the game was tied at 13 at the break.

The third quarter continued to go back and forth, with both Wohlers for DC West and Noah Shoemaker for Cozad scoring six points in the third quarter. After three, DC West led 27-26. DC West would then erupt in the fourth quarter, outscoring Cozad 19-5 in the final frame. Cam Wiese scored 10 points in the fourth quarter, including going 5-6 from the free throw line, to help his team pull away and win the game 46-31.

Shoemaker led the way for Cozad scoring 13 points. The Haymakers were 10-20 from the free throw line and committed five turnovers. DC West was led by Wiese who had 14 points. The Falcons were 9-10 from the free throw line and had 10 turnovers.

DC West improves to 22-3 and will be on to the State Tournament next week for the first time in program history. Cozad ends their incredible season at 22-5.
