BROKEN BOW – Candidates for the Custer County Board of Supervisors fielded questions Wednesday as the Custer County media partnered on a candidate forum.

An audience of about 100 people heard from candidates for two seats on the county board. In District 2, incumbent Tammy Kleeb is being challenged by Corey Clay. District 4 will have no incumbent in the race between Mo Hunsberger, Jan Dobesh, James Markham and Ray Hunt.

Taxes were of course a major topic as all the candidates agreed that was the biggest issue facing the county.

The candidates also spoke on the importance of local control and that local government could best serve the needs of Custer County.

The candidates come from a range of backgrounds and experiences. Kleeb said her supervisor position is her primary job, Markham is a longtime member of the Merna Village Board in addition to involvement in a variety of local businesses, while Clay is currently the Deputy Emergency Manager. The other candidates have been involved in a variety of other community boards and organizations in addition to private businesses.

The primary election will be held on May 14.
