The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office and Lexington Police Department hosted a Coffee with a Cop event Wednesday morning July 10, 2024 in the Sheriff’s Office parking lot. Sheriff Mark Montgomery described it as an opportunity for the public to meet law enforcement officers in a non-adversarial environment. He was very pleased with the turn out and express his appreciation to all the sponsors.

Lexington Police Cap. Phil Lauby says officers are friendly and like talking to the community. He says the officers are there to answer questions and hear of any concerns. Cap. Lauby believes that such officer interactions with the public anywhere in the community helps to make them be more approachable.

The event included K9 and Drone demonstrations along with a look at the Sheriff Offices new speed enforcement trailer. Sheriff Montgomery says the deputies are excited about it, particularly the programmable message board that can be changed if needed. A large number of personnel from the Sheriff’s Office and Police Department attended. The event featured coffee, cookies and hydration drinks.
