Holdrege, Neb. – The Minden First Bank Seniors came to Landmark Field with hopes of keeping their perfect season alive. The Holdrege Inspire Rehab Seniors were playing with the exact same mission. As both undefeated teams clashed on Wednesday night, it didn’t take long for fans to see this would be another exciting chapter between the Highway 6 rivals. Minden came out on top of an outstanding pitcher’s duel, winning 1-0 over Holdrege.

The game’s only run came with one out in the top of the first when Minden center fielder Jake Halvorsen was able to cross home plate off of left fielder Kade Dorzynski’s sac fly. A couple of first inning errors contributed to the Minden lead before Dorzynski’s deep drive to center field. After the Halvorsen score, the Holdrege defense never faltered again.

Inspire Rehab got another quality start from Beau Jensen. He worked the mound for five innings while striking out nine batters and was somehow able to quietly hold Minden to zero hits. Jensen was dialed in for most of his time the hill with no earned runs and just four walks. Zac Sundquist took over for Jensen at the start of the sixth inning. Sundquist struck out two and allowed just one hit in his two innings of relief to hold Minden to their one run.

That one run was all Minden would need, however. As impressive as Holdrege’s defense and pitching were, miraculously, Minden’s was even better. It all began with a brilliant performance by starting pitcher Logan Clark. Through all seven innings, Clark was able to keep Holdrege guessing as he changed pitching speeds, locations, and movement at will.

The Inspire Rehab batters had no answer for Clark, striking out 16 times. The Minden starter surrendered just two hits and one walk in the complete game shutout. In a span that began in the second inning and lasted into seventh, Clark retired 17 straight Holdrege batters. That included a streak of 10 straight strikeouts. The execution from Clark will likely be the best Holdrege will see this season.

Minden First Bank improved to 5-0 with a trip to Gothenburg coming on Friday.

Holdrege Inspire Rehab fell to 4-1. They will also head to Gothenburg to face the Melons on Thursday night. Holdrege will be back at Landmark Field on Saturday to host Ogallala at 3:30. KUVR’s coverage will begin at 3:20.
