A 23-year-old Chicago, IL man faces multiple charges following a high speed pursuit in Dawson and Buffalo counties on Wednesday. It started around 11:05 am as a Nebraska State Patrol trooper attempted to stop a vehicle for traveling 100mph about 4 miles west of Lexington on Interstate 80. The vehicle, a California-plated car, sped up and began passing vehicles on the shoulder several times while reaching speeds up to 119mph.
Another trooper successfully spiked the car’s left front tire about 4 miles east of the Elm Creek interchange and came to a stop two miles later after a trooper conducted a maneuver causing the vehicle to spin into the median. The driver, identified as Frederick McGee, complied with directions and was placed under arrest without further incident.
There was 16.2 pounds of Marijuana located in a black duffel bag in the trunk of the car and $768 in currency was seized from McGee’s pants pocket. The entire pursuit lasted approximately 16 minutes.
McGee was arraigned in Dawson County Court Thursday morning on charges of Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Operating a Motor Vehicle to Avoid Arrest, Possession of Drug Money. Forfeiture of the drug money is also being sought by the Dawson County Attorney’s Office. Bond for McGee was set at 10% of $150,000 and a preliminary hearing was set for September 13, 2022 at 11:00am.
