Camp Comeca — Camp Comeca and Retreat Center located south of Cozad recently found out its indoor pool pump, which had been working for 29 years, was worn out. The timing wasn’t ideal since children would soon be flocking to the camp for the summer season.

It was announced Thursday, May 30, on social media, that the pump would need to be replaced as soon as possible and the cost would be an estimated $15,000 to $20,000 — a cost that was not planned for in the annual budget. Camp Comeca Development Coordiator Amy Hoehner says the pump campaign met and exceeded its goal in less than a week…

Hoehner says the timetable for replacing the pump is uncertain, but they are hopeful the repairs can be made soon so the pool can be open this summer.

The Wilson Foundation made a generous contribution to the camp in the 1990s allowing for improvements that made it possible for camps and retreats year-round. The foundation’s donation created the means for an indoor swimming pool, gym and hotel-style lodging to be built.

The camp was sold to the Cozad Camping Ministry in April 2020. It was previously owned by the United Methodist Church.
