Broken Bow uses big fourth inning to top Inspire Rehab

Broken Bow, Neb. – The Inspire Rehab Seniors looked to shake off a few tough offensive outings over the past week during their visit to Broken Bow on Wednesday night. The Holdrege Seniors were unable to find their groove at the plate and fell 9-1.

Holdrege was tested yet again by facing the opposing team’s ace pitcher. Broken Bow’s Max Denson held Inspire Rehab to just one hit and one run over five innings. Denson also struck out seven batters in the dominating performance.

Lyndon Rodewald was off to a strong start on the mound for Holdrege as well. He was able to hold Broken Bow’s offense at bay through the first three innings, collecting six of his seven strikeouts in that span.

The fourth inning would prove to be too much to overcome after leadoff batter Coy Wardyn reached safely on an error. Broken Bow used some early mistakes in the inning to keep turn up the pressure on their way to a seven-run scoring barrage. Their five hits in the fourth were punctuated by Wardyn’s second at bat of the inning when he hit a bases-loaded triple.

Holdrege was held to just one baserunner in the top of fifth, a two-out walk for Clay Bohr. The bottom half of the inning was ended quickly after Brice Chaplin led off with a walk followed by a two-run homer from Zach Loy. The shot to left field would put Broken Bow ahead by eight runs, and the game was over.

Broken Bow knotted up the season series with the win and improved their record to 7-2.

Inspire Rehab fell for the third time in their past four games. Their record now stands at 5-3 with a game scheduled for Sunday. Holdrege will host Imperial at 3:30 pm. KUVR’s coverage will begin at 3:20.
