PLEASANTON – Pleasanton has named Jason Boyd as its next boys basketball coach and high school principal.

The Kearney native will take over as coach for Bill Giffin, who is retiring after the school year. Meanwhile Ricci Westland will shift to being the elementary principal.

Boyd has been at Kearney High School for 18 years and currently serves as an assistant principal. He said the timing was right for him to go to a smaller school.

Boyd coached the Kearney High girls team for 13 seasons from 2006 to 2019, amassing more than 300 wins in that time. He stepped down in order to move into an administrative position and said he’s excited to return to the sideline.

Boyd says he wants his teams to be well-prepared and well-organized.

Brenner Keane will remain on staff as Boyd’s top assistant coach.
