Big sixth inning pushes Broken Bow seniors past Gothenburg

BROKEN BOW – The Broken Bow Senior Legion baseball team used a sixth inning rally to knock off Gothenburg 11-6 on Tuesday.

Broken Bow jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning and pushed the advantage to 5-1 after three.

Gothenburg responded with four runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game, but Broken Bow answered with one in the bottom half to go back in front.

Gothenburg was able to tie the game again in the top of the sixth, but Broken Bow then broke through for five runs in the bottom half to take control.

Max Denson had three hits and three runs driven in for Broken Bow. Zach Loy also had three hits. Coy Wardyn went 2-for-2 with a walk, two RBI and three runs scored.

Gothenburg managed just two hits, but Broken Bow’s pitchers were wild, issuing nine walks with four hit batters.

In the juniors game Broken Bow held off a late rally to win 7-6.

Broken Bow scored a run in each of the first four innings and three in the fifth to take a 7-2 advantage.

Gothenburg surged back with four runs in the sixth, but Dominic Nowak came out of the bullpen for Broken Bow to retire five straight batters and preserve the victory.
