Kearney-UNK sophomore thrower Rylan Basart had a day to remember on Saturday as he broke the school record in the javelin throw. The record was held by his uncle Darren and had stood since 1992. Basart talks about his special day with KRVN’s Jayson Jorgensen.
Basart (Stockton, Kan.), also a specialist on the Loper football team, uncorked a toss of 212-9 in his first attempt on Saturday in Kearney. Basart has been throwing the javelin since the 6th grade. His throw was not only good enough for first place on Saturday but also topped the 212-0 that his uncle Darren Grauerholz threw back at the 1992 NCAA Championships in Texas.
