Arapahoe wins shootout with Southern Valley

OXFORD – It was a coming out party for Arapahoe sophomore Grayson Koller who ran for 192 yards and five touchdowns in helping guide his team to a 69-42 victory over Southern Valley.

Koller came into the game with only two carries for eight yards all season before he exploded for the Warriors Thursday night. He got the scoring barrage started with a six yard touchdown run on their first drive of the game. Fellow tailback Rafe Hill would find the endzone on their next drive from two yards to grab a two score lead. Southern Valley would answer before the end of the quarter as Kamden Bose found Rian Grove for a 14 yard touchdown. Each team would turn the ball over before the end of the period but remained a one score game.

The second quarter would see the offensive floodgates open as seven total touchdowns would be scored. Koller would go off for three rushing touchdowns from four yards, 10 yards and 17 yards. He also picked off Bose for his first interception of the year. Arapahoe quarterback Trenton Roskop would scamper into the endzone from 49 yards to complete the scoring explosion for the Warriors. The Eagles would do their best to answer as Bose threw two touchdowns, both to Mitchel Wilson. One from 35 yards and the second from 70 yards. At the half Arapahoe led 47-20.

The scoring bombardment would continue in the third quarter as four more touchdowns would go up on the scoreboard. Koller would sneak in one final time from 33 yards out. Hill also found the endzone on a 19 yard run. The duo of Bose and Wilson would connect again in the fourth, this time form 20 yards out. Bose would also find Grove again for a 23 yard touchdown pass. Through three, Arapahoe would extend their lead 62-34.

In the fourth, only two more touchdowns would be scored as Hill of Arapahoe ran in from 34 yards out and Bose to Wilson for Southern Valley would hook up for a 40 yard touchdown pass. The Warriors would also fumble the ball in the fourth.

Arapahoe ran for 386 total yards while only passing for 59 yards. Along with Koller’s dominate game, Hill ran for 123 yards. Roskop was a perfect 3-3 for 44 yards, one touchdown a fumble, 60 yards rushing and one rushing touchdown. Dylan Bahe caught his first two passes of the year for 33 yards and one touchdown. Southern Valley found success through the air, as Bose threw for 419 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions. Wilson was his favorite target with 12 catches for 230 yards and four touchdowns. Grove caught 11 passes for 153 yards and two scores. The Eagles only mustered 17 yards on the ground.

Southern Valley dropped to 0-7 and extended their losing streak to 11 dating back to last year. The Eagles will travel to Alma next week. Arapahoe improved to 4-3 and will play at Sandills Valley next week to end the year.
