Loomis Activities Director and Head Boys Basketball Coach Drew Billeter completed his final season at the helm of the Wolves last week after a D1-2 district final loss to Maywood-Hayes Center. However, it won’t be the ending of the 2022-23 season that will stick in the minds of so many Wolves fans, Loomis students, and members of the community. Billeter’s eight-year tenure proved to be much more than that. There were multiple playoff appearances, state competitions, and improvements to the gymnasium.
Drew Billeter came to Loomis in the fall of 2015 after spending time at St. Paul and Palmer. The Wolves had just suffered their third losing season in a row, and Billeter got to work right away while posting a 13-9 record. In those eight years, Loomis would never endure a record below .500. Billeter helped lead his team to four straight trips to the state tournament, culminating with a runner-up trophy last year after going 24-5. The Wolves head coach would also celebrate his 200th career win at Loomis this past season and came just one win away from punching their ticket to a fifth straight state tournament berth.
Drew Billeter leaves Loomis for a new opportunity at Southwest Public Schools. His journey as Superintendent in Bartley will begin with the 2023-24 school year. As a former student, teacher, principal, coach, and AD at Loomis, Billeter’s impact will no doubt be felt for years to come.
