Dawson Public Power District and Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District have a potential merger on the table.
The talks began when CNPPID saw they had a contract that was going to be up in 2024 and the General Manager for CNPPID, Devin Brundage, approached DPPD’s General Manager Gwen Kautz about selling power to DPPD.
As they started talks on the buying/selling of power, they looked deeper into the details and through both internal research as well as an independent 3rd party consultant, Power Systems Engineering, a company out of Minnesota, conducted research into what would be best for both power districts.
The conclusion was that a merger of the two districts would provide cost savings and other benefits.
The two districts will be holding several open houses for the public to attend to ask questions and gain additional information about the proposed merger.
