The case of man accused of killing a Lexington man in Kearney in 2022 has been
bound over to district court.

Romeo Chambers, 27, is charged in Buffalo County with 2nd-degree murder, 1st-degree assault, 2nd-degree assault, and three weapons counts in the shooting death of Jared Shinpaugh in 2022.

Chambers had been on the run until he was arrested last January in Phoenix.

At a preliminary hearing Friday, the court found there was enough evidence to bound the case over to district court for trial.

A fourth weapons count was dropped in the case.

Chambers is also facing assault charges related to two separate inmate assaults that allegedly occurred since he has been in custody in Buffalo County.

Those cases have also been bound over to district court. Court records say his next court hearing is scheduled for June 21, 2024 at 9:00 A.M.
