Lexington, Neb. — 30 years ago on April 11, 1994, Dawson Public Power District’s (DPPD’s) power grid was heavily damaged by an ice storm. Some customers were without power for weeks. It was a difficult time. Power needed to be restored to homes and the electrical system needed to be ready to serve large irrigation loads that summer. The 1994 ice storm was so monumental, t-shirts were made. The design was drawn by a retiree. A transformer vendor also donated t-shirts to all the crews.
The storm caused $15.1 million in damage to DPPD’s electrical infrastructure.
KRVN AM & FM relied on a small, portable electric generator to stay on the air for approximately 50 hours following the storm.
