Papillion, Neb. — The 7th annual Nebraska 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is set for this Saturday, September 14, at Werner Park Stadium, 12356 Ballpark Way, Papillion, from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Organizers say it’s a way to honor and remember New York City Firefighters (FDNY) who selflessly gave their lives so that others might live on September 11, 2001.

Each participant pays tribute to an FDNY firefighter by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center.

U.S. Sen. Pete Ricketts is also expected to attend.

Organizers say through firefighter and community participation, it’s ensured that each of the 343 firefighters is honored and that the world knows we will never forget.

There are 11 teams and 159 participants registered for the event. 54 donations totaling $11,242 have been received.

The Stair Climbs fund the programs provided by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) to support the families of local fallen firefighters and the FDNY Counseling Services Unit.
