Maxine L. Jones, 91 years of age, of Holdrege

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Maxine L. Jones will be held on Tuesday,
January 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with
Reverend Dr. W. Kirwin Stewart Jr., officiating. A private family inurnment will be held
prior to the service at the Minden Cemetery, Minden, Nebraska.

Maxine L. Jones, 91 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023
at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege. Maxine was born on May 17, 1931, in Minden,
the second of three children born to Hubert and Anna (Bergsten) Shannon. Maxine received
her education from Minden Public Schools, graduating from Minden High School with the
class of 1949.

She was united in marriage to James Owen “Jim” Jones on December 27, 1950 at Minden
and to this union four sons were born: Michael, Mark, Dan and Steve. They made their home
in Grand Island and Minden, until 1967, when the family moved to Holdrege. Maxine
worked as a bookkeeper for Bob and Norm’s Flooring in Holdrege. Following retirement,
Maxine and Jim enjoyed traveling, especially wintering in Pharr, Texas for many years.
Maxine was a wonderful baker and loved to share her treats with others. She also enjoyed
gardening and tending to her flowers. Most of all, Maxine was a devoted wife, mother and
grandmother. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her joy and she enjoyed
attending as many of their activities as possible.

She was a faithful and dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church of Holdrege,
where she served as Elder and Deacon, a Sunday school teacher, was active in the choir and
served on the Women’s Association and church circle. She was active with the Bloodmobile
and Meals on Wheels, for many years. Maxine has left a legacy to her family of God’s
amazing love and grace, and was an example to all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; two sons: Mark in infancy; and
Mike Jones in 2019; daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Jones; great-grandson, Jace Ryan Jones;
sister, Eleanor Deisley and her husband, Marvin; three sisters-in-law: Eula Dunlap and her
husband, Earl; Catherine Maxon and her husband, Kenneth; and LuEllen Jones; one brother-
in-law, Willis Jones and his wife, Marian; nephews: Robert “Bob” Deisley; Gerald “Jerry”
Deisley; and Bruce Deisley and wife, Sherry; one niece, Teresa Shannon Ryan; and a great-
niece, Paula Deisley.

Maxine leaves to celebrate her life; two sons: Dan Jones of Holdrege; and Steve Jones
and his wife, Sherry of Grand Island; eight grandchildren: Jeremy Jones and his wife, Jody;
Josh Jones and his wife, Tori; Sara Hammond and her husband, Arik; Amy Peterson and her
husband, Chris; Paul Svoboda; Susie Moll and her husband, Zach; Kip Jones and his wife,
Anna; and Chelsea Lauer; 18 great-grandchildren; her brother, Wesley Shannon and his
wife, Marcia of Minden; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 
Memorial Book Signing will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00
p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer
Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Maxine’s honor and kindly suggested to the First
Presbyterian Church of Holdrege or Meals on Wheels.
