Edna Anna Brunow, 96 years of age, of Holdrege

A Funeral Service for Edna A. Brunow will be held on January 26, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the First
United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska. Interment will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery at
Holdrege.

Edna’s funeral service will be live-streamed and posted to the First United Methodist Church’s Facebook
Page.

Edna Anna Brunow, 96 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023,
at Holdrege Memorial Homes. Edna was born on April 5, 1926, in Kinsley, Kansas, born to Myron
J. and Fay Anna (Dawley) Cole. Edna was one of five children. She received her education from
Sharon Springs Public Schools in Sharon Springs, Kansas, graduating with the class of 1944.
Edna moved to Colorado and married Woodrow Schukar and the couple was blessed with five
children: Frank, Larry, Virginia, Alice, and Linda (born at rest). Later divorcing after moving to
Minden, Nebraska in 1958 to live near family. In 1971 she moved to Holdrege and started working
for Beckton Dickinson where she worked for 19 years. Edna continued to stay busy working part-
time jobs.

On December 31, 1974, she was united in marriage to Edwin Brunow. They met at a Parents
Without Partners meeting and together they enjoyed dancing. Ed passed away on January 8,
1990, never having the opportunity to enjoy retirement.

She was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church and was active in church
bible studies and women’s circles through the years. She was also a member and past president
of the Eagles Auxiliary and the Becton Dickinson Retirees Group. Edna was also a member of the
V.F.W. in Axtell, Nebraska, and B.P.O.E. Does.

Edna’s love was bowling. She participated in bowling leagues in Holdrege, Kearney, and travel
leagues. For 35 years Edna traveled to many National Bowling Tournaments. She enjoyed going
to the Senior Center for meals and activities. Edna was a daredevil; she rode crazy rides at the
Kearney County Fair and at 89 years old she parachuted out of a plane in Holdrege.
Edna treasured the time spent with her family. Above all, she had a faithful and deep-abiding
love for her Lord Jesus Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin; daughter, Linda Lois in
infancy: 4 siblings: Orville Cole and his wife, Eva; Hugh Cole; Letha Allen and her husband, Les; John
Cole; three half-siblings, and one son-in-law, Terry Britton.

Edna leaves to celebrate her life; four children: Virginia Britton of Kearney, Nebraska; Frank Schukar
and his wife, Mary of Minden; Alice Cisneros and her husband, Frank of Kearney; Larry Schukar and his
wife, Nancy of Loomis, Nebraska; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren;
sister-in-law, Barbara Cole; along with other family members.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the
Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Edna’s honor and kindly suggested to the First United
Methodist Church in Holdrege or Holdrege Memorial Homes.
