Monthly Mobile Food Pantry/ Dawson County Fairgrounds/ Lexington
FOOD BANK FOR THE HEARTLAND CREATES NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH CROSSROADS MISSION AVENUE TO SERVE MORE NEIGHBORS IN LEXINGTON, NEBRASKA
OMAHA, NEBRASKA—Food Bank for the Heartland is partnering with CROSSROADS Mission Avenue to host free mobile food pantries in Lexington, Nebraska. The distribution times have changed to provide more convenience and assist more neighbors in need. The Lexington Mobile Pantry will now take place on the 1st Thursday of every month from 3–5 p.m. beginning July 7. All mobile pantries will be held at Dawson County Fairgrounds, located at 1000 Plum Creek Parkway in Lexington.
The one-day distributions will provide much-needed relief for neighbors and will include one box of shelf stable food, one box of produce, and one loaf of bread. Recipients are asked to stay in their vehicle with the trunk open. Items will be directly placed into vehicles. The pantry is available to anyone living in Lexington and the surrounding communities. No identification is required to receive food.
Food Bank for the Heartland and CROSSROADS Mission Avenue are committed to helping families and individuals struggling with food insecurity. Approximately 15,000 pounds of perishable and shelf-stable food will be distributed at each mobile pantry—which is enough to serve 400 households.

We are grateful for the opportunity to provide these resources to children, families, seniors, and veterans in Dawson County.”
According to Feeding America’s 2021 Map the Meal Gap study, approximately 12.3% in Dawson County are at-risk for hunger. Of the more than 1.8 million people living in the 93 counties served by the Food Bank, there are approximately 207,000, or 1 in 9 people, struggling with food insecurity.
