The City of Scottsbluff is in the process of acquiring an additional fire truck for the Fire Department for just pennies on the dollar.

During the November 20th, council meeting, Fire Chief Tom Schingle said they’ve been looking for some backup to their current fleet, and stumbled across a fire truck for sale from a department in New York.

“This engine is in really pretty decent shape considering the age. It’s got very low mileage, very low hours on it,” Schingle explained. “It’s still frontline use right now for the current department that it’s with. They’ve taken very good care of it and they really don’t even want to part with it, but their boar says they have to since they’re getting a brand new one.”

He says the $125,000 price tag is a bargain. as currently a brand new truck would cost between $750,000 to $1 million and take two to three years to build.

Schingle also noted that a mechanic will be giving the fire truck a full inspection, and if anything is amiss, Scottsbluff can walk away from the deal at no cost.
