Mitchell boys win district golf title; Alliance, Bridgeport teams also qualify for state

The Mitchell boys golf team captured a district title, while the Alliance and Bridgeport teams also qualified for next week’s Nebraska state golf championships.

Class B-4

In the Class B-4 district at Hillside Golf Course in Sidney, Alliance finished in third place with a 331, just seven shots back of Ogallala, who was the district champion. McCook was second with a 326.

Gothenburg’s Jakeb Scherer bested McCook’s Payton Craw in a playoff for the district title, as both golfers shot a 73. Alliance was led by seniors Creighton Cyza, who finished fifth (76), and Caeson Clarke, who finished in ninth (79).

The Class B state meet is Tuesday and Wednesday, May 25th and 26th at Elks Country Club in Columbus.

Class C-5

In the Class C-5 district at Court House and Jail Rock Golf Course in Bridgeport, Mitchell was the district champion with a 331. Host Bridgeport finished runner-up with a 347, while Valentine was third (372).

Mitchell junior Austin Thyne was the district champion with a 76, edging Bridgeport junior Braxten Swires by one (77). Mitchell had three golfers total in the top ten, including freshman Cael Peters who finished third (80), and senior Jaron Anderson placed ninth (85).

Bridgeport also had three golfers in the top ten, as seniors Brady Newkirk was fifth (82), and Bayler Sterkel was tenth (88).

Gordon-Rushville had two individuals qualify for the state meet, as sophomore Jace Nelson finished fourth (81), and junior Tagen Snyder placed eighth (84). Kimball senior Jesse Heide was also a state qualifier, placing sixth (83).

The Class C state meet is Tuesday and Wednesday, May 25th and 26th at Kearney Country Club.

Class D-5

In the Class D-5 district at Heritage Hills Golf Course in McCook, Hyannis was the champion (379), while Creek Valley finished second (397), and Paxton third (409).

Mullen senior Brendon Walker was the meet champion with a 74, eight strokes better than Hyannis junior Jhet Holthus (82).

Morrill had two golfers qualify for the state championship, as seniors Brody Brown finished seventh (93), and Kolten McMacken tenth (96)

The Class D state meet is Tuesday and Wednesday, May 25th and 26th at Lake Maloney Golf Club in North Platte.
