The principal at Gering High School has been placed on administrative leave.

According to a letter to parents and patrons dated Dec. 10, District Administration took the action involving Rocky Schneider Dec. 6.

As noted in the letter, Gering Public Schools officials told KNEB News there would be no further comment, as it is a personnel matter. Assistant Principal Mario Chavez is taking over as interim principal.

The letter says administrators know the absence creates questions among students and parents, and District personnel are working with building administrators and staff supporting and encouraging regular school operations.

They say going forward, the priority is to continue the important and meaningful work of education with the least amount of disruption possible, and finish the semester off strong.
