Third attempt to get medical marijuana before voters starts Wednesday
September 12th, 2023 | News Release

Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana (NMM), the ballot committee leading the effort to put the legalization of medical cannabis before voters in November 2024, will host a signature drive kickoff event in Lincoln on Wednesday.

Patients, families, caregivers, and volunteers who have helped spearhead this effort for many years will be in attendance, as well as campaign manager and advocate Crista Eggers, and NMM co-chairs, State Senator Anna Wishart and Former Senator Adam Morfeld.

Efforts to get the issue before voters have failed twice in the past, the first time gathering enough signatures to make the 2020 ballot, only to be barred because the wording violated the state constitution’s single subject provision.

A second effort to make the 2022 general election ballot failed to gather enough signatures after the campaign lost two major financial backers who had provided significant funding during the initial effort, which at that time helped with the hiring of paid circulators.
