Staff at the Riverside Discovery Center is looking to create some more space for some of their animals to spread their wings.

Scottsbluff City Council zoo liaison Matt Salomon recently told councilmembers that the RDC still has approximately $130,000 in shovel-ready grant funds. He says the caveat is the zoo has to provide matching funds to put the grant to work, otherwise it’s going to be just wasted money.

“So we’ve got a little over $130,000 of these to still use. The goal is to get the whole area where the birds are, those corn cribs, and the goal is to get those out which was an AZA request and put in some new exhibit space for birds,” said Salomon.

He also says the zoo’s newest addition- a mountain lion cub- is getting acclimated to his new surroundings and will soon make his public debut.
