Today is Veterans Day, and some of Nebraska’s top elected officials released statements in honor of the men and women who have proudly served our country.

Governor Pete Ricketts: “Nebraska is home to around 127,000 veterans who bravely served our country in every corner of the globe. Their service to defend our freedoms should be honored and celebrated throughout the year, but especially on Veterans Day. We are also grateful to our veterans’ family members for their sacrifices to support their loved ones who have served. As we celebrate Veterans Day, I encourage Nebraskans to say thanks to the veterans in their families and communities for all they’ve done to protect our country.”

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer: “On Veterans Day, we honor those who have served our nation. The bravery and commitment of our veterans has kept the American people safe and protected our many freedoms. I hope you will join me in thanking our Nebraska veterans for all they have done to safeguard the American way of life. The United States is the greatest country on the earth because of their service and sacrifice.”

U.S. Senator Ben Sasse: “Our veterans have fought valiantly for the safety of Americans back home and the security of our allies abroad. From Normandy’s beaches in WWII to Afghanistan’s deserts in Operation Enduring Freedom, our nation’s finest put their lives on the line. The hard work and grit of the men and women in our armed forces ought to be celebrated today and every day.”
