College rodeo athletes in the Great Plains region are set to compete in their final rodeo of the regular season this Friday and Saturday at the Sandhills Global Event Center in Lincoln.
This weekend’s rodeo comes after Governor Jim Pillen officially declared this week “Rodeo Week” in Nebraska.
Over 300 athletes from across the region will be in attendance, with many making their final pushes to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming, this June. Not only will the top three in each event advance to the CNFR, but the winners of each event will be crowned the year-end champions of the Great Plains region.
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, and Mid Plains Community College are a few teams that will be represented.
The UNL Rodeo Program has been hard at work this week promoting and preparing for the rodeo. Team members have been involved in media interviews, on campus promotions, arena setup and more, all while maintaining their academics and practicing for the weekend ahead.
