ANSELMO – The Nebraska Grazing Lands Coalition will host a tour of an area near Anselmo that was affected by the 2023 Cooksley Complex Wildfire. The tour will include speakers who will share information about recovery efforts and how the grazing lands were impacted by the fire.

NGLC Executive Director Leah Peterson said the coalition holds tours each summer, but it has been a while since they’ve done one in Custer County.

State Range Conservationist Jeff Nichols said this tour will provide a unique opportunity to learn about the resiliency of Nebraska’s rangelands when struck by natural disasters such as wildfires.

The event will begin with a special screening of “Ocean of Grass” on Wednesday, June 11 at the Fox Theater in Broken Bow. The tour itself will take place Thursday, June 12 at the McGinn and Cooksley Ranches.

Peterson said it will be a great educational opportunity both for those who work land of their own and for those who aren’t as familiar with the importance of Nebraska’s grazing lands.

More information on the tour can be found on the NGLC website.

Peterson and Nichols joined Adam Smith on the KBEAR Morning Show to talk about the event.
