The Wisner-Pilger Boys Basketball Team upset Madison 56-54 on the road in last Friday night’s regular season finale before winning 69-62 in overtime over Omaha Nation in the C2-7 Sub-District Play-In Game at Ponca last Monday night, and then losing 73-49 to Ponca in the Sub-District Semifinals last Tuesday.

Madison Game Recap:

The Gators led the Dragons 15-12 after one and outscored Madison 18-10 in the 2nd quarter to take a 33-22 lead into the locker room. The Dragons won the 3rd quarter 11-9 to make it a 42-33 game at the end of three. Madison outscored Wisner-Pilger 21-14 in the 4th quarter.

Jeff’s Ponca Recap:

The Indians led 21-15 after one and outscored the Gators 23-11 in the 2nd quarter to take a 44-26 lead into the locker room. Ponca outscored Wisner-Pilger 14-6 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 58-32 at the end of three. The Gators won the 4th quarter 17-15.

End of Season Synopsis:

Wisner-Pilger ends their season at 3-20. I thought the Gators played good Basketball at the end of the season and feel that’s something they can build upon heading into next season. Carter Cleveland was the only Senior lost to graduation. Everyone else returns next year. Wisner-Pilger was really young this year and should be much improved next season. With a full year of growth, improvement, and maturity look for the Gators to get back to their winning ways in 2024-2025.
