February 27th, 2024 | Jeff Axtell

The Lyons-Decatur Northeast Boys Basketball Team fell 87-69 to Walthill last Tuesday in the D2-5 Sub-District Semifinals from Walthill.

Jeff’s Recap:

The Blujays led 20-16 after one before the Cougars won the 2nd quarter 18-15 to make it a 35-34 game at halftime. Walthill outscored Lyons-Decatur Northeast 25-15 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 60-49 at the end of three. The Blujays won the 4th quarter 27-20. Kaden Knaak had 31 points and 8 rebounds while Braden Hardin and Brayden Hegge totaled 14 and 12 points, respectively. Brady Hayes added 9.

Jeff’s End of Season Synopsis:

Lyons-Decatur Northeast finishes the year with an 8-15 record. Knaak led the team in scoring with 269 points and rebounding with 152 boards. The Cougars say goodbye to Hardin, Hegge, Colten Miller, and Andrew Schlichting. Key returners include Knaak, Talan Mock, Hayes, and Eyan Tuttle. I think LDNE did some nice things this year, now it’s simply a matter of building upon those things for next year. The Cougars have to have a great offseason of growth and development. I think Lyons-Decatur Northeast can be pretty good next year if they work hard and improve over the summer.
