Howells-Dodge and Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family met for the third time this season, this time in the first round of the boys Class C2 state basketball tournament at Northeast High School in Lincoln last Monday in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.

The Bulldogs were able to win a close game in overtime, 55-52.

H/LHF got off to a quick start, leading 6-0 and 11-3 early. But Howells-Dodge was able to close the gap. The Bulldogs led 15-12 after the first quarter.

The Jaguars had a short scoring run and were able to take a brief lead in the second quarter. But H/LHF regained the lead, and held a 27-25 advantage going into halftime.

The Bulldogs outscored the Jaguars 14-10 in the third quarter, and the score favored H/LHF 41-35 after three.

Howells-Dodge outscored H/LHF 15-9 in the fourth quarter, and were able to tie the game at 50-50, sending things into overtime.

Both teams struggled finding rhythm on offense in the OT period. The Bulldogs went 5-8 from the free throw line in the extra frame, and held the Jaguars to two points.

Gavin Nelson made six three pointers in the game and had 18 points for Howells-Dodge, while RJ Bayer also scored 18 points. Blake Sindelar added 10 points.

Howells-Dodge ends their season at 23-4 overall.

It was a great year once again for the Jaguars.

H/LHF just had their number for whatever reason though.

The Jaguars say goodbye to Sindelar, Bayer, and Nelson.

The top 3 scorers from the State Tournament are gone, but Howells-Dodge returns plenty of talent next year.

Back for the Jaguars next season will be the likes of Brittin Sindelar, Aiden Meyer, Lance Brester, Colton Klosen, and Aandy Dominguez.

Howells-Dodge should make another run at things once again next year.

The Bulldogs lose a lot so perhaps the Jags will be back down in Lincoln next year and be able to make some more noise.
