HASTINGS – Guardian Angels Central Catholic lost 3-2 to Bishop Neumann in the winner’s bracket semifinals of the Class C State Softball Tournament in Hastings on Thursday.
The Cavaliers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and made it 2-0 in the top of the fourth.
The Bluejays tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth. Kayla Fischer led off the inning with a double, and Sydney Hutchinson became the courtesy runner in her place. Hutchinson scored on an RBI triple from Tori Buss. And Buss was able to score after an error on a Leah Jansen hit.
The game would remain tied at 2-2 until Bishop Neuman took a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh.
The Bluejays got the potential tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to score, making the 3-2 decision final in favor of the Cavaliers.
Buss was 3-3 at the plate for the Bluejays with the RBI.
GACC will now play Yutan/Mead in an elimination game at 11:30 on Friday morning.
The winner advances to play Bishop Neumann for the state championship at 2:00.
