OAKLAND – Terry Poland, the former police chief in Oakland, has been federally charged for the misuse of public funds.

He had been the Oakland Police chief since 2015 but was placed on administrative leave in June after news broke that the Nebraska State Auditor believed that Poland had used $14,000 in city funds on personal items like an ice-fishing shack, a wakeboard and a basketball backboard.

The 33-year-old former chief Poland, who now lives in Fremont, resigned in July and surrendered his state law enforcement certification.

He will make a court appearance and enter a plea next month.
