Creighton Softball Falls to Providence in Regular Season Finale

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton softball team had its eight-game winning streak snapped with a 2-0 loss to Providence on Sunday afternoon in the regular-season finale at the CU Sports Complex.
 
The loss drops the Bluejays to 33-20 on the year and 16-8 in BIG EAST play, claiming the No. 3 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament, while Providence ended their season with a 22-23-1 overall record. 
 
Bluejay starting pitcher Natalia Puchino allowed just four hits, two earned runs and struck out five during the complete game loss, dropping her overall record to 24-6. 
 
At the plate, Creighton recorded four hits and three walks, but left seven runners on base, including four runners in scoring position.
 
Providence scored the lone two runs of the game during the top of the first inning as Jacque Harrington blasted a two-run home run to left to give the Friars a 2-0 lead. 
 
The Bluejays put pressure on Providence starter Alyssa Twomey throughout the contest as Creighton placed runners on second during the first, fourth, fifth and sixth innings, but ultimately where unable to push any runs across, suffering a 2-0 defeat.

Qualifying for the BIG EAST Tournament for just the third time since joining the conference prior to the 2014 season. The third-seeded Bluejays will face sixth-seeded Butler on Wednesday, May 8 at 2 p.m. CT in Providence, R.I.
