Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur came up just short of a major upset in the first round of the girls Class C1 State Basketball Tournament at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln last Monday, as the Wolverines fell to the Warriors 33-32 in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.

BRLD was the #8 seed in the tournament while Lincoln Lutheran was the #1 seed.

Points were hard to come by early for both teams, as the Warriors held a 6-2 advantage after the first quarter.

Things picked up for BRLD in the second quarter, as they outscored Lincoln Lutheran 13-5 in the period.

The Wolverines led 15-11 at halftime.

Scoring was pretty even again in the third quarter, with BRLD gaining the 7-5 advantage in the quarter, and leading 20-16 heading into the final frame.

The output on offense picked up for Lincoln Lutheran in the fourth quarter, as they went to to score 17 points in the period, including eight points from Katelynn Oxley.

BRLD had the ball, trailing 33-32 with 19 seconds remaining, but the would-be winning shot missed, preserving the victory for the Warriors.

Jordan Snyder had 11 points for BRLD and Alyssa Buchholz added eight.

Oxley had 17 points for the Warriors.

BRLD ends their season at 19-7 overall.

What a great and magical season and ride for the Wolverines.

I don’t know if anyone expected BRLD to make it back to State, but they did, and nearly reached the finals.

The Wolverines lose Buchholz and Snyder to graduation.

These two will be missed for sure.

The two schools are going back to being separate next year so it will be the Bancroft-Rosalie Panthers and Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars once again.

I think that will be a good thing for both schools for competition reasons.

BRLD did really well in C-1 this year, but next year probably would have been a different story.

It will be interesting to see how both teams fare on their own next year.
