Jessica Bearfoot, 50, of Holdrege

     A private family memorial service for Jessica M. Bearfoot will be held at a later date.

     Jessica Maxine Bearfoot, 50 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away, on January 8, 2024, at her home in Holdrege. Jessica was born in Newcastle, Wyoming on September 20, 1973, to Dick Baker and Jodi (Chestnut) Edwards. She grew up with one older sister and one younger sister. She received her education from Holdrege and Kearney Public Schools.

     Jessica was united in marriage to James Layton and to this union four children were born: Justina, Jordon, Jerimya, and Jayme. The couple lived in Holdrege before moving to Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Washington and later settling back in Holdrege.

     In 2011 Jessica married Lee Bearfoot and accepted his daughter Sam as her own. The family made their home in Ellicott, Colorado. The marriage later ended in divorce and Jessica moved with her children to Oxford, Nebraska.

     Jessica had a love of animals and was often seen tending to their numerous pets, which included several dogs, cats, fish, ducks, geese, chickens, a parrot, a pig, and a rabbit over the years. She enjoyed puzzles, beading, watching movies and Dr. Phil. Her passion was helping others who needed it, especially children.

     Jessica was preceded in death by her husband, James Layton; infant daughter, Jordon Lee Layton in 1997; one infant granddaughter; her grandma Maxine Lucile; and a nephew David Sampson.

     Jessica is survived by her three children: Justina Layton and her significant other, Kirby Johnson of Holdrege, Jerimya Layton and his wife, Linda of Minden, Nebraska; and Jayme Layton and her significant other, Jesus Loya of Holdrege; five grandsons: Jason, Tycen, James, Benjamin, and Jazper; parents, Dave and Jodi Edwards of Loco, Oklahoma; two sisters: Terrie Renfo and her husband, Robert; and Bandi Samson both of Loco, parents-in-law: Jerry and Janice Layton and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

      There will be no viewing or visitation. The family is honoring Jessica’s wish for cremation.

      A memorial has been established in Jessica’s honor and is kindly suggested to the family for a later designation.
