The WESTCO Zephyrs opened the 2024 legion season with a 12-5 home win at Cleveland Field over Douglas, Wyoming on Wednesday night.

Carter Reisig, who played last year for Gering, made his return to the program last night and he got the start and struck out 11 in four plus innings of work. Reisig has signed to play at WNCC beginning in the fall.

The Zephyrs had a pair of big innings offensively as they scored five runs in the second and had another five run inning to put the game out of reach in the sixth inning.

Two bats in particular coming up with some big games for the Z’s were Jahrell Mendez and Caleb Burda. Mendez went 3-3 and drove in three on a bases clearing triple in the sixth inning and for Burda it was a 2-4 night with two RBI.

After Reisig was pulled mid-inning in the fifth Oscar Felix came on and he closed out that inning and finished the game on the mound delivering three innings out of the bullpen allowing just one hit while striking out three.
