LARAMIE, Wyo. (Aug. 14, 2024) – The Wyoming Cowboys are in the third week of fall camp and held the program’s annual Media Day on Wednesday in the Wildcatter Suites and inside the Indoor Practice Facility.

What Jay Had to Say at Media Day

“It is here, and we are two-plus weeks out and we are excited about that. It is getting close to the season, and you are getting that feeling just being around town. It seems like a week ago we walked off the feel at the Arizona Bowl. The thing I’m excited about is the work we have done in winter conditioning, spring practice and our work now and we are a hungry football that has worked each day.”

Experience at Wide Receiver

The Cowboys wide receiver room will see a nice mix of both new faces and veterans. The trio of Alex Brown, Will Pelissier and Devin Boddie, Jr. have combined for 100 career games. Brown has played 39 games for the Pokes with Pelissier adding 29 games. Boddie, Jr., has recorded 32 career games with 13 at Wyoming after spending time in the SEC at Vandy.

Tight End Room

The Cowboys will once again have one of the most talented tight end rooms in the Mountain West led by John Michael Gyllenborg. Gyllenborg participated in all 13 games with four starts, three of which were the final three contests of the season. He pulled in 23 passes for 360 yards with three touchdowns. Gyllenborg reeled in a career-long 89-yard touchdown pass against Hawaii, which also happened to be the longest passing touchdown of Wyoming’s season. He ended the game against the Rainbow Warriors with a career-high 128 yards receiving. Gyllenborg logged a career-high five receptions against Texas Tech, including the game-leveling touchdown pass on fourth down in overtime.

Forcing Turnovers

The 2023 Cowboys were one of the nation’s top teams in forcing turnovers. The Pokes forced 22 turnovers a season ago to rank No. 26 in the nation. Wyoming recovered 11 fumbles on the season, a number that tied for first in the MW and seventh in the nation. The Pokes return seven of the 11 interceptions last season led by three from nickel Wrook Brown and two from Wyett Ekeler. Wyoming also returns five of the forced fumbles with two forced by Ekeler to lead the team.
