The Western Nebraska Community College softball team placed four players on the Omaha World Herald All-Midlands JUCO softball team that was released earlier this month.
The Cougars had two First Team selections and two Honorable Mention selections to the All-Midlands JCUO team.
Katelynn Czerpak, of Aurora, Colorado, earned a First Team nod with her play in the outfield. Czerpak batted .405 a year ago with 44 stolen bases. She also had three doubles with 36 runs scored.
Jenika Fuentes, a freshman from Sweetwater, Texas, earned First Team honors as a utility player. Fuentes was a third baseman for the Cougars as well as a pitcher. Fuentes batted .362 on the season with six home runs, 11 doubles, 26 RBIs and 28 runs scored. She also appeared in 21 games in the circle with a 7-9 record and a 6.10 ERA with 50 strikeouts. She led the team in innings pitches with 103.1.
The honorable mention selections to the team were both freshmen with Mykah Klumpp of Wichita, Kansas, and Bailey Legere of Manitou Springs, Colorado.
Klump was an outfielder that had a .351 batting average with three home runs, 8 doubles, 16 runs scored, and 21 RBIs. Legere was an infielder with a .337 batting average with six home runs, 22 runs scored, 32 RBIs, and 11 doubles.
McCook Community College had the most players on the First Team with six. They included pitchers Ella Covill-Marter and Sadie Kahl; catcher Laila Guitierrez, first baseman Lexi Knapp; shortstop Andie Suhai; and outfielder Anne Elliott.
Central Community College-Columbus had three First Team members including the captain of the softball team in third baseman McKinna Moats. Central also had Andrea Palma and Addison Kudron both as pitchers.
Southeast had three First Team selections in pitcher Kendyl Schmitz, second baseman Emma Jenson, and designated player Ella Culhane. Northeast had one selection in outfielder Malika Monroe.
Also making the All-Midlands JUCO team on the honorable mention was Gering graduate and McCook Community College player Brylee Dean.
