NORFOLK – The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team had their 7-game streak snapped after dropping a doubleheader to Northeast Community College in Norfolk Wednesday afternoon.

The first game was a close contest until the sixth when Northeast scored nine times in the sixth inning for the 13-3 win.

The second game saw Tyler Easter go 3-for-3 but it wasn’t enough as Northeast scored seven early runs and held on for the 14-4 win.

WNCC drops to 8-10 on the season and will head to Arizona for their Spring Break trip with a game against Madison College on Sunday in Phoenix, Arizona.

WNCC scored first on the day when they score a single run in the third inning of the first game when Garrett Dodd broke up the perfect game with a solo home run.

Northeast tied the game with a run in the fourth only to watch the Cougars score a run in the fifth for a 2-1 lead when Ashton Ross doubled and scored on a Kensei Oikawa sacrifice fly.

Northeast came back with three in the fifth to grab a 4-2 lead. WNCC plated one in the sixth to make it a 4-3 deficit when Bryce Peterson singled in Shintaro Inoue. That was all as the Hawks came back with nine in the sixth to end the game via the run-rule.

WNCC managed just four hits in the first contest. Ross had a double while Dodd had a home run.

The second game saw Northeast plate four in the first before WNCC sliced the lead in half with two in the second when Easter was hit by a pitch and scored on a Dodd single. Dodd later scored on a Dylan Harris 2-out single.

Northeast came right back and scored eight straight runs over the next three innings to lead 12-2. WNCC scored single runs in the sixth and seventh to try a comeback. The sixth saw WNCC load the bases with a single by Easter and two free passes. Arturo Montiel was then hit by a pitch to score the first run, but the Cougars couldn’t get anymore.

The seventh saw WNCC get another run when Inoue singled and scored on an Easter single to make it 13-4. Northeast added a run in the eighth to end the game via the 10-run rule.

WNCC managed seven hits in the contest, while Northeast had 14, including four home runs. Easter led the way with three singles with two runs scored and an RBI. Ryan Platt had the only extra base hit with a double.
