March 21st, 2024 | Scott Miller

Western Community College Area Governors have declared a vacancy on the Board in the district representing Cherry, Sheridan, Dawes, Sioux and Grant counties.

During Wednesday’s board meeting, Chair Karen Anderson announced the need for the declaration due to the passing of District 1 representative Dr. Margaret Crouse.

After the declaration, Anderson discussed the selection process. “We are appointing an ad hoc committee to make recommendations to fill this vacancy. And John Stinner will chair, and Marjorie Schmidt and Misty Curtis and myself will also be on the committee,” said Anderson. “Susan (Verbeck has) been arranging the advertisement that will go out. And I believe the cutoff date would be April 8th, and then the committee will convene after that.”

Anderson said Crouse will be missed, noting she had been serving as President of the Nebraska Community College Association board, and brought a lot of wisdom and expertise in education and the Higher Learning Commission to the WCCA board.

Persons residing in Western Community College Area Electoral District 1 who are interested in being considered for an appointment to fill the remainder of Dr. Crouse’s term on the Board (through December 2026) should send a letter and a resume by April 8, 2024 to the WCCA Board of Governors, c/o Susan Verbeck, Board Secretary, 1601 East 27th Street, Scottsbluff, NE 69361.

District 1 contains the following precincts – Cherry County: Merriman, Russell, King, Mother Lake, Cody, Barley, Gillaspie, Lackey, portion of Wells; Dawes County: all precincts; Grant County: all precincts; Sheridan County: all precincts; Sioux County: all precincts.
